Mutual of Enumclaw Receives Innovation Award

by Michael Cousins | Jul 2, 2014

Mutual of Enumclaw was proud to receive the 2014 Award in Innovation from The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC).  President & CEO Eric Nelson accepted the award on June 25 at a NAMIC Management Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Excerpts from our submission:
We believe that innovation isn't just coming up with a great idea – it’s about putting a great idea into action as effectively and efficiently as possible.

We have undertaken a strategy totally dedicated to providing a rare and valuable insurance experience that cannot be found elsewhere. To meet this objective we sought out the “gold standard” for strategy execution (Franklin Covey) and company culture (Disney Institute).

As a mutual insurance company, our policyholders own the company. We see our NPS score as essentially the “stock price” or the value our owners place on our company. And because the only way we can add new mutual members is through an Independent Agent, we must make it as easy as possible for agents to send new owners our way.

We have found that our unwavering focus on strategy execution and company culture has led to continuous improvement, the invention of better ways to operate, and the delivery of a rare and valuable insurance experience that cannot be found elsewhere.  And we believe that is the essence of innovation.

A history of thoughtful coverage.

We were founded in 1898 by a group of local farmers who wanted to look out for each other. Although we have steadily grown since then, that same spirit exists today.
